First-time Galveston cruise tips
Sailing from Galveston for the first time? Here is a plain checklist that keeps cruise day calm.
Every seat is protectedBefore you go
- Bring the identification your cruise line requires, whether a passport or the accepted alternative for closed-loop sailings, along with your boarding pass and luggage tags.
- Confirm which of the four Galveston terminals your ship uses. See terminal directions.
- Decide your ride early. A shared Houston to Galveston shuttle is the low-effort, low-cost option at $39 a protected seat. If you drive, reserve port parking online in advance.
- Plan your arrival around your assigned check-in window, and leave flight buffer. The timing guide covers how much.
Packing notes
- Keep medications, documents, and valuables in a carry-on, not in checked luggage.
- Pack a change of clothes and swimwear in your carry-on. Checked bags are sometimes delivered to your cabin later in the afternoon.
- Check your line's rules on what you can bring aboard, including any policy on water or soft drinks.
Embarkation day
- Traffic on the Galveston Causeway can back up on busy mornings, so build in a cushion, or arrive the island the day before.
- Porters at the terminal handle your large bags. You will see them again in your cabin.
- Eat before you board or plan for the ship. Embarkation lunch is included on most lines.
- Have your documents and identification easy to reach for check-in and security.
Coming home
- Most passengers are off by mid-morning, so do not book a tight departing flight.
- Our return shuttles run from the port and hotels 8 AM to 5 PM, and a late ship arrival is covered by protection.
Want the island context too? See things to do, where to eat near the port, and park-and-cruise hotels.
Prefer to skip the driving?
Our shared vans run this route for a flat $39 per seat, and every seat is protected. Reserve your seats or see the schedule.
