The ride home after your cruise

Disembarkation is the part of the trip cruisers tend to plan last. We run the reverse of our airport routes, from the Galveston cruise port and island hotels back to both Houston airports, so you are not sorting out a ride in the terminal line with your luggage.

Return vans depart from the port and Galveston hotels between 8 AM and 5 PM. Most cruise lines have everyone off the ship by mid-morning, so pick a departure that leaves comfortable margin for your flight. If you are not sure how much buffer to leave, the cruise-day timing guide walks through it.

Back to your airport

• Galveston to Hobby is the shorter run, about 40 miles and roughly 45 minutes.
• Galveston to IAH is about 70 miles and an hour and 15 to an hour and a half, so leave extra room for a flight out of Bush.

A note on flight timing

It is common to underestimate how long disembarkation and the drive back take together. Between the walk-off, the ride to the airport, and security, a mid-afternoon flight is usually more comfortable than a late-morning one, especially out of IAH.
